This article introduces the application of SiC MOS

As an important basic material for the development of the third generation semiconductor industry, silicon carbide MOSFET has a higher switching frequency and use temperature, which can reduce the size of components such as inductors, capacitors, filters and transformers, improve the power conversion efficiency of the system, and reduce the heat dissipation requirements for the thermal cycle. In power electronics systems, the application of silicon carbide MOSFET devices instead of traditional silicon IGBT devices can achieve lower switching and on-loss, while having higher blocking voltage and avalanche capacity, significantly improving system efficiency and power density, thereby reducing the comprehensive cost of the system.

 

First, industry typical applications

The main application areas of silicon carbide MOSFET include: charging pile power module, photovoltaic inverter, optical storage unit, new energy vehicle air conditioning, new energy vehicle OBC, industrial power supply, motor drive, etc.

1. Charging pile power module

With the emergence of the 800V platform for new energy vehicles, the mainstream charging module has also developed from the previous mainstream 15, 20kW to 30, 40kW, with the output voltage range of 300VD-1000VDC, and has two-way charging function to meet the technical requirements of V2G/V2H.

 

2. Photovoltaic inverter

Under the vigorous development of global renewable energy, the photovoltaic industry has expanded rapidly, and the overall photovoltaic inverter market has also shown a rapid development trend.

 

3. Optical storage machine

The optical storage unit adopts power electronic control technology to achieve energy transfer through intelligent control, coordinate control of photovoltaic and energy storage batteries, smooth power fluctuations, and output AC electric energy that meets the standard requirements to supply power to the load through energy storage converter technology, to meet the multi-scenario application on the user side, and is widely used in off-grid photovoltaic power stations, distributed backup power supplies, energy storage power stations and other occasions.

4. New energy vehicle air conditioning

With the rise of 800V platform in new energy vehicles, SiC MOS has become the first choice in the market with its advantages of high pressure and high efficiency, small chip package size and so on.

5. High Power OBC

The application of higher switching frequency of SiC MOS in three-phase OBC circuit can reduce the volume and weight of magnetic components, improve efficiency and power density, while the high system bus voltage greatly reduces the number of power devices, facilitates circuit design, and improves reliability.

 

6. Industrial power supply

Industrial power supply is mainly used in such as medical power supply, laser power supply, inverter welding machine, high-power DC-DC power supply, track tractor, etc., need high voltage, high frequency, high efficiency application scenarios.
